Who quoted Tolstoy's Pierre?

I'm going crazy. I accidentally deleted several blocks of text (by pressing "t" while they were highlighted, it seems) in the Sticky Notes app, and I can't get them back. Didn't paste them anywhere else, either.

I'm looking for a quotation from Tolstoy, from _War and Peace_, something said by the character Pierre. It must have been about writing or about shallow people or SOMEthing. Can't even remember what! But I do think it came from someone on my LJ friendslist.

Did any of you post something like that? What in the world could it be? *facepalm* Googling Tolstoy is no good. Comes up with billions of hits. "Pierre" is a common thing for LJ users to say, too, it appears. . . .
