Meme-o-rabeelya
Jan. 17th, 2006 11:55 pmLightening up and doing something for those not interested in hearing about writing all the time . . . a meme stolen from
greygirlbeast that she got from
oneirophrenia, a meme behind the LJ cut. I only did the first twenty-four questions.
1. Your name spelled backwards.
snilloC annalahS. That might be a pretty cool pseudonym. Say, Snilloc! Got any hootch?
2. Last incoming call on your phone.
Aunt Jean, saying she's home and going on to bed.
3. What is the last thing you downloaded onto your computer?
The .pdf file from a website offering agents' names, addresses, and guidelines.
4. What's your favorite restaurant?
Blue Mesa Grill, Addison, Tx. But if you're asking where we GO all the time, it's Chili's here in Richardson. Blue Mesa is a special event.
5. Last time you swam in a pool?
When we went to a writers' convention and had a hotel room at the Radisson--their pool goes inside and outside. That must be six years ago now. I really WOULD go swimming if I had the chance . . . we bought a wading pool, in fact, but I didn't even use THAT this summer.
6. Have you ever been in a school play?
Starting in first grade! Biggest roles: "Our Town," "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," "Plaza Suite," "Harvey"
7. 2 or 3?
Three is a magical number with powers similar to seven, or possibly more
8. Type of music you dislike most?
Rap/hip-hop. It's so angry. The beat seems to invite one to prepare for battle. It reminds me of the Choctaw/Cherokee battle dance beat or some kind of jungle rev-up so that one army can get heated up to go out and fight. And the lyrics are always angry and frequently somewhat incoherent. There's no melody to it!
I'm not terribly fond of "praise bands" in church, either, but then I'm not in favor of instrumental music in public worship in the first place.
10. Do you have cable?
Doesn't everybody?!~
11. Have you ever ridden on a 4-wheeler?
Eek!
12. Have you ever made a prank phone call?
If I had, would it be incriminating myself to answer this?
13. Boyfriend/Girlfriend?
Husband.
14. Would you go bungee jumping or skydiving?
I have no intention of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. And those little rubber cables look too flimsy.
15. Farthest place you ever traveled?
Greygirlbeast observes that this should be "farthest," and we've edited the original question. I've never been farther than San Francisco . . . isn't that way farther away from Dallas than Washington, D. C.? Hmm. I could look it up.
16. Do you have a garden?
Yes--a conventional flowerbed in front yard, herb garden in side yard, water garden and water feature (small pond) in back yard
17. What's your favorite comic strip?
I'll always love Peanuts, and I have a special spot for Calvin and Hobbes.
18. Do you really know all the words to your national anthem?
I *think* I know the first two verses word-perfect. I also know "Texas, Our Texas," the state song.
19. Bath or Shower, morning or night?
Showers in the evenings. I like baths, but showers are quicker.
20. Best movie(s) you've seen in the past month?
Eh . . . I don't really like any of the new movies, though we'll probably get the Lord of the Rings eventually and I might watch that sometime.
I re-watched "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Sullivan's Travels," and "Real Genius," though. They were on the TiVo.
21. Favorite pizza toppings?
Mushrooms, olives, peppers.
22. Chips or popcorn?
Chips. Popcorn hulls get between my teeth and the gumline and it's always a trial to get them out. My childhood dentist told us not to eat popcorn because those hulls DO get between your teeth.
24. Have you ever smoked peanut shells?
What kind of crazy loon thought that one up?!
That's enough of that.
Mystery novel reviews.
Loompanics is going out of business! I guess you can get most of their "underground lifestyles" info now for free out on the 'net. But they were cool, anyway.

Date: 2006-01-18 05:55 am (UTC)2. A call-back for a neighbor looking for a girl to spend last night with. She said no, which I think was wise of her.
3. A shareware program to open .pdf files. It was awful and has sinced been erased.
4. Anywhere? That renovated railroad depot in Ogdensburg, New York with the best Steak Diane I ever ate, or the Brass Horse in Hogansburg, NY, where everything on the menu is of the highest quality, cooked exactly as one wants it. By far the best martinis in northern New York, made with Bombay Sapphire gin. They'd be #1 if they made Steak Diane. Here in Oklahoma City? Sorry, it ain't happening.
5. Sorry, I don't swim. Never learned how.
6. Yes, several. In one, in the sixth grade, I played Erich von Bimmer, owner of a cheese factory in Switzerland. Played Koko, the Lord High Executioner, in "The Mikado" during my high school freshman year. Played many small roles in the 1977-1981 period in my late wife's theater group, most notably a drunken TV sportscaster in 1979. I'll be returning to the stage later this year, playing the "Teddy Roosevelt" role in "Arsenic and Old Lace" with a local seniors' theater group.
7. 3, I suppose. Would prefer 4 or 6.
8. I too would have to say I dislike rap most, but I am no fan of heavy metal either.
9. This question was missing, but my answer is Sandra Dee.
10. Yes, I have cable. And cable modem broadband Internet service. That's a much better deal than what's on cable.
11. No, nor have I wanted to.
12. Of course. After all, I was ten once too. I don't know if Mr. McBeath at the Henderson, NV Rexall drugstore ever let Prince Albert out of that can, though.
13. None of the above. I remain optimistic, though.
14. Not even if I were already dead.
15. Farthest from where? Where I lived at the time, or during an extended journey? I once flew from Seattle, WA to Tampa, FL, quite a long stretch. But then again, I flew once from Orlando, FL to Los Angeles, CA for a one-night engagement, then flew directly back to Orlando. From where I lived at the time, Las Vegas to Vancouver, BC, via station wagon and virtually non-stop.
16. No garden at this apartment complex. I'm sure my neighbors would immediately smoke it.
17. For Better or for Worse, by Lynn Johnston.
18. I know all four verses to "The Star-Spangled Banner." My favorite line is, "Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand, Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation."
19. Bath, if time allows. These days it almost always does. During the winter I can stay warmer taking a bath; in the summer I take a lot more showers.
20. I haven't seen any movie in the last month, not even favorites that I have on VHS or DVD. I'm still waiting for "Godfather IV."
21. Italian sausage and anchovies.
22. Chips. They don't make nacho-flavored popcorn.
23. I have smoked cigarettes, cigars, pipes, marijuana and hashhish, but I have NEVER smoked peanut shells. Great Scott!

Date: 2006-01-18 07:33 am (UTC)2. My father, asking if I wanted a lift home (I was standing on the doorstep at the time).
3. My new icon. Thanks, alivicwil!
4. Howie's is nice.
5. Last time I was at Crieff, I expect. Not recently.
6. Yes. Kaa the snake in The Jungle Book, one of 200 Oompa-Loompas in glittery wigs and Bermuda shorts, a Mama in Fiddler on the Roof. And if university counts, a servant in The Comedy of Errors and Trinculo in The Tempest - the pinnacle of my acting career!
7. Three, because three times three is nine.
8. Hip-hop. The beat's too slow to cross-train to. Anything with inane lyrics.
9. Funny Little Frog, by Belle and Sebastian.
10. My parents do and I live with them, but I don't pay for it and rarely watch it.
11. Don't even know what one is - if it's the same as a quad-bike, no.
12. No. I'm a good girl.
13. Boyfriend. Come back in a couple of months and it'll be "husband". How weird.
14. Not on your nelly.
15. Could be St Petersburg, but I think it's probably Florida.
16. My parents do. I have some houseplants.
17. Astérix.
18. Well now. I know the first verse of "God Save the Queen", and all of "O Flower of Scotland", which isn't officially an anthem.
19. Bath in the evening, although shower in the evening happens more often.
20. In the past month, I think I've only watched The Fellowship of the Ring. Recent big-screen films: MirrorMask, Howl's Moving Castle (the book is better, though!)
21. Goat's cheese, rocket, mushrooms, roast red onions (not necessarily all together). Haven't eaten pizza in an age.
22. Um, chips, I suppose, although I hardly ever eat either anymore. If I'm going to spend the calories, I want something sweet!
23. The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
24. No. Never smoked anything, ever - just don't see the attraction!

My mum, calling before she took off to see the Alberta grandkids
3. What is the last thing you downloaded onto your computer?
Probably those mp3s of one of Matt Mays's live performances.
4. What's your favorite restaurant?
Ba'an Thai (spelling?) on Dresden Row in Halifax. For very special occasions. Ohmygoshgood.
5. Last time you swam in a pool?
Lord. I can't remember--maybe fifteen years ago?
6. Have you ever been in a school play?
Yes. In grade eight I played Dr. Seward in a performance of "Seven Brides for Dracula." In makeup nobody noticed I was a girl.
7. 2 or 3?
Two. I always go for even numbers.
8. Type of music you dislike most?
Insipid instrumental wind-instrument stuff. Zamfir or Kenny G can make me hurt myself.
10. Do you have cable?
Nope.
11. Have you ever ridden on a 4-wheeler?
Nope.
12. Have you ever made a prank phone call?
Once, by mistake--we were calling a friend ot tease her and my friend accidentally dialled the wrong number before handing me the hpone. True story.
13. Boyfriend/Girlfriend?
Cats.
14. Would you go bungee jumping or skydiving?
Oh hell no. I nearly fainted watching the Empire State Building sequence in King Kong.
15. Farthest place you ever traveled?
Halifax to Dallas, Dallas to Vancouver... one of the two.
16. Do you have a garden?
No.
17. What's your favorite comic strip?
Peanuts
18. Do you really know all the words to your national anthem?
Yes, all the official words in both official languages. And consulting the government's Web site tells me I also knew the meaning of the French version, too.
19. Bath or Shower, morning or night?
Showers, morning to get the day started. Baths, night, to relax or if I'm cold after the barn.
20. Best movie(s) you've seen in the past month?
The two I've seen are King Kong and Syriana, and I liked both of them for different reasons.
21. Favorite pizza toppings?
Mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage.
22. Chips or popcorn?
Chips.
24. Have you ever smoked peanut shells?
It would never have occurred to me to try.
