Happy Birthday Today to Edgar Allan Poe!
Read one of his cooler poems over on
oneirophrenia's LJ.
Poe is generally acknowledged to have written the first detective story, father to the modern mystery novel. He invented the detective story in the 1840s with tales like "Murders in the Rue Morgue" and "The Purloined Letter." Sherlock Holmes and other fictional detectives came later. (Some sources go so far as to say that Poe invented the short story as a form.) Pretty cool. Quoth the raven, "What a score."

A pottery metaphor. Kind of a neat way to think about learning how to structure *anything* you're making.
