I wish this day could have been peaceful worldwide. Instead, there's a major conflict going on.
Have a peaceful and reflective (though not glow-in-the-dark!) Armistice Day, Veterans' Day, or Remembrance Day. Our sincere appreciation and thanks goes out to all those who have served or are currently serving.
Pray for peace.
I always hear in my mind's ear the "Charge of the Light Brigade" when I hear of activity in the current war. ("And into the valley of death rode the six hundred.") And the Flanders Field poem. *sigh* And especially, Shelley's "Ozymandias." All this won't matter a whit in five hundred years, assuming the planet is still occupied at that date . . . so why can't we all just get along? Live and let LIVE.
A prayer for peace everywhere (including Israel) from the Hebrew, courtesy of redaxe, but stolen from a different translation:
Oseh shalom bimromav hu ya'aseh shalom aleinu ve'al kol yisrael ve'al kol haolam v'imru amen.
And Now For Something Completely Different And (I Hope) More Uplifting
Now for the weirdest QuestionMeme ever. Reply in a comment, paste it into your LiveJournal, or just scribble it on the insides of your eyelids. Stick with it--it gets weirder.

Date: 2004-11-11 04:07 pm (UTC)Orange or pink? Orange.
The Monkees or the Beatles? The Beatles.
Narnia or Our Realm? Narnia. The grass is always greener...
Tomorrow or yesterday? Tomorrow.
Before or After? After.
Intuition or sensing? Sensing.
Process or product? Process.
In the present moment or in reverie? Reverie, of course.
Peter Pan or Skippy? Peter Pan.
Frog or turtle? Turtle.
History or literature? Literature.
Mystery or imagination? Imagination.
Shakespeare or Shaw? I'll have to think about that one.
1964 or 2004? Let's compromise: "1984"
Britney or Jessica? (or "Gag!!!") Too bad Celebrity Deathmatch was cancelled:)
Kurt Vonnegut or Robert A. Heinlein? VONNEGUT!
Carmel-by-the-Sea or the top of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee? Carmel (Don't tell my family!)
Ford Freestar or Dodge Grand Caravan? The Ford. I had a Chrysler van once.
Hooterville or Pixley? Huh?
WWII or the Civil War? Damn! I'm not too fond of either, but at least the Civil War wasn't what they call "total war" like WWII.
Lucy or Ethel? Lucy.
Chirp or burp? Chirp.
Samantha Stevens or Sabrina Spellman? Samantha<3
The Boss (Bruce Springsteen), The King (Elvis Presley), or The Chairman of the Board (Frank Sinatra)? The King.
Sacred or profane? Profane.
Today or tomorrow? Tomorrow.
Sex or drugs? (Okay, I already know the answer to THAT one; perhaps we should add a choice: rock and roll?) Sex, but only because the other two are bad for me.

Date: 2004-11-11 06:06 pm (UTC)The Monkees or the Beatles? The Beatles. Or the Monkees. Maybe The Who. How about just "yes" (expect that answer a lot :-)
Narnia or Our Realm? Amber. Sorry, the answer really is neither.
Tomorrow or yesterday? Tomorrow
Before or After? Not "or", "and", and then Science
Intuition or sensing? Senses, mostly
Process or product? Process
In the present moment or in reverie? Present moment, except when it's "tomorrow" :-)
Peter Pan or Skippy? Between an Eternal Child and a Bush Kangaroo, I choose youth
Frog or turtle? Frog. Except in cuisine, then turtle: there's good eatin' on them things :-D
History or literature? Literature
Mystery or imagination? Imagination. Wait. Mystery, in its spiritual sense. Imagination in all others.
Shakespeare or Shaw? Yes, thank you.
1964 or 2004? 2004, unless you know a way to actually get back then
Britney or Jessica? (or "Gag!!!") With a spoon, s'il vous plait.
Kurt Vonnegut or Robert A. Heinlein? Heinlein. Heinlein. And more Heinlein.
Carmel-by-the-Sea or the top of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee? Never been to either, so I guess, "yes"
Ford Freestar or Dodge Grand Caravan? Grand Caravan. (Actually, GM Safari, because I hate how long the front end of the Caravan's become)
Hooterville or Pixley? Um, Mayberry, RFD?
WWII or the Civil War? Civil War. It wasn't very civil, but I didn't lose half my family in it.
Lucy or Ethel? Lucy
Chirp or burp? For me, or for taking care of. I chirp, they burp. But at least they almost always say "excuse me"
Samantha Stevens or Sabrina Spellman? Samantha. But do I have to be that wooden replacement? :-D
The Boss (Bruce Springsteen), The King (Elvis Presley), or The Chairman of the Board (Frank Sinatra)? Yes. In that order.
Sacred or profane? Yes. Very, for both
Today or tomorrow? As often as you like :-)
Sex or drugs? (Okay, I already know the answer to THAT one; perhaps we should add a choice: rock and roll?) Yes. (Damn. Now you've got that chant going in my head: "Sex and drugs and rock and roll", counterpointed with "Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet" and also "Rape, kill, pillage and burn. Gonna rape, kill, pillage and burn. Eat babies!")
Hey, ask some silly questions, you expect profound answers? :-)

Date: 2004-11-17 11:53 am (UTC)Orange or pink? deep rusty orange
The Monkees or the Beatles? Monkees, Beatles, and Rolling Stones
Narnia or Our Realm? Dunno. I love Narnia. What's Our Realm? Is that the lovely country in Pamela Dean's Secret World books? (No, I haven't read them yet -- recently picked up the first, read a few pages, and was enchanted.)
Tomorrow or yesterday? depends on what’s on the calendar
Before or After? after, because then I can figure out the story of what happened before
Intuition or sensing? Intuition, though this is the area where I come closest to balance. I’m pretty radically introverted, feeling, and perceiving. Right brain all the way.
Process or product? Mostly process, but the product matters too. No matter how pure your intentions, if the results of your work keep causing damage, you need to rethink something.
In the present moment or in reverie? the present moment generally is a reverie
Peter Pan or Skippy? anything, as long as it’s peanut butter. Or nutella. Or maybe habanero jelly.
Frog or turtle? turtle
History or literature? both, please, with a side of philosophy
Mystery or imagination? they go together. Nothing sparks my imagination like mystery
Shakespeare or Shaw? Shakespeare, no question
1964 or 2004? Interiors blue with cigarette smoke, or landscapes cluttered with condos? Cars with fins but no seat belts, or Hummers and Mini Coopers? Black and white television sets, or laptops with wifi? Vietnam or Iraq? The Feminine Mystique or post-feminism? Walter Cronkite or Dan Rather? Pre-Stonewall or post-HIV?
I remember 1964, you see. Vividly. And while I do still love the house where I lived then, I love the life I have here and now, three thousand miles and forty years distant. If I woke and found myself in 1964 -- my 1964 -- I would get one of my father’s guns and blow my five-year-old heart out.
Britney or Jessica? (or "Gag!!!") I don’t know their music. How about Bonnie Raitt?
Kurt Vonnegut or Robert A. Heinlein? Vonnegut. I may be the only poly person who does not care for Heinlein’s writing.
Carmel-by-the-Sea or the top of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee? Carmel. I’m allergic to Tennessee, which as far as I know is entirely underwater. It sure looked that way the only time I was there. (I suspect the tobacco fields.) Also, I love California.
Ford Freestar or Dodge Grand Caravan? How about a nice Prius?
Hooterville or Pixley? I never heard of Pixley, and I’m trying to forget Hooterville.
WWII or the Civil War? Oh, the Civil War. I’m a Civil War geek. Not a re-enactor, though I’ve known some. I’ve spent a lot of time on the battlefields of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. I know family stories about my relatives who fought. I used to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the war.
Lucy or Ethel? Murphy Brown. I know Lucille Ball was a smart, successful businesswoman, but the character she played on that show was relentlessly anti-feminist. Over and over, she tried to be competent and failed, tried to be independent and went wailing to hubby, tried to be famous and ended up humiliated. It’s unbearable.
Chirp or burp? Chirp, though a good burp can be satisfying.
Samantha Stevens or Sabrina Spellman? Buffy. Samantha showed the other side of the Lucy paradigm, the woman who abandons her power to please a man, but ends up subtly managing him with it.
The Boss (Bruce Springsteen), The King (Elvis Presley), or The Chairman of the Board (Frank Sinatra)? The Boss.
Sacred or profane? Making the profane sacred.
Today or tomorrow? tomorrow, if I get to it.
Sex or drugs? (Okay, I already know the answer to THAT one; perhaps we should add a choice: rock and roll?) Sex. Even if the drug is caffeine.
