Stupor Bowl Avoidance
Feb. 4th, 2007 05:16 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
While ever'buddy else in Texas is watchin' that Stupor Bowl (even though the Cowboys ain't even in it--imagine), I have been at the grocery store, the storage building, and online.
At the storage building, when Mama and I rolled up the ol' metal door, we smelled gasoline. STRONGLY. It isn't in HER little cubbyhole, but in one of the adjacent ones. I retrieved the two sacks of tablecloths/clothing that she wanted and stuck in two folding kitchen barstools that I want to keep but didn't have a place to put. There was a layer of dead grass clippings/dust on everything; we think that's because they have people who go up and down the "streets" there blowing the stuff around and mowing and cleaning up so it'll look neat, but that also makes the stuff blow under the rolling doors. Or maybe that just always happens. So then she got to coughing and had a slight asthma attack. I got her back into the van and drove up to the office to report the stinky. The man PROMISED he would look into it THEN and began looking up the names of the people who have the units all around ours. I offered to leave him our key and let him just lock it back up for us (there's nothing of value in there, just sentimental value and so forth, really), but he said that wasn't a problem. If there's a really big BOOM out that direction tonight, I will know what it is. (sigh)
But anyhow, then I cleaned and vacuumed (yay me) a little bit, and returned to Websurf. Instead of surfing, I followed a link to a "Free Tarot Card Reading!!" Now, I don't know if the online readings have any validity at all--and I don't even know if a "real" reading does, either. But I couldn't resist trying out this link.
I tried out their six-card layout. My cards were crazy, as usual. Didn't help that what I asked was, "Will I have any success selling a book in the next six months, before May or so?"
How you feel about yourself now (The Emperor):
You feel that success and achievement are on their way to you. A man of significance will provide his support, perhaps your father, husband/partner or boss - whoever it is, he will give you steady support. You feel confident and able to influence people and events, as you have a great sense of your own authority. Expect promotion at work or achieving greater status in life. If you have been a victim of ill will, be assured that you will win in the end.
(Well, that was encouraging. However, it's only "present situation" and "how you FEEL about yourself now," not a prediction.)
What you most want at this moment (Death): (no!!!)
The cards suggest that what you most want at this time is absolute change, to end what you no longer want and start anew. You desire to transform your career or your love life, perhaps your whole lifestyle in general. However catastrophic such changes could be, embracing them will only make you grow in wisdom and experience.
(Well, OK, but ook. I said I wanted to change the channel, not hop off the air entirely!)
Your fears (The Devil): (!!! All the bad cards!)
You are afraid that it's out of control, that you simply cannot resist this passionate attraction. Despite the fact it's addictive and unlikely to be right, you just can’t stop yourself. Whatever it is, try to resist, as it is unlikely to have a positive outcome. If you're feeling low in self-belief and self-worth and doubt your abilities, don’t. Have more confidence--it's not too late to change direction.
(Well, THAT sounds like "stop writing," but it's under "fears.")
What is going for you (The Sun):
The Sun is shining on you: it's your time for success, joy and happiness. You will feel confident and full of vitality. It's a time to celebrate with friends and loved ones, perhaps enjoy a well-earned holiday, a time of pleasure and good news around children or the conception or birth of a longed-for baby. If you are not feeling this way take heart, you will enter this period soon.
(At last, something that sounds good!)
What is going against you (The Lovers):
Are you suffering in silence in an unhappy relationship or feeling very lonely? Do you have the courage to make the decision you really know you should make? You have a great sense of duty, but are you happy? A difficult decision has to be made; have courage and you will achieve emotional happiness.
(I'm not in an unhappy relationship, but we do feel a bit constrained and in a holding pattern because all I do is strive, etc. That's why I keep thinking I should use all this energy to develop some other pursuit. Or at least clean the house.)
Outcome (The Hanged Man): (!! again with the ook)
You will in time know what decision to make about who or what must be given up. This is a time of passage from one phase of your life to another. It may be a difficult choice, and self-sacrifice is never easy, but if you look for truth and integrity and don’t be too materialistic or hang onto things or people for all the wrong reasons, everything will turn out in your favor. The Hanged Man symbolizes the coming to an understanding about our inner needs.
(I didn't like that. I clicked to re-draw the Outcome card, and that time I got the Hermit, reversed. That seemed even worse.)
* * *
Well, that "outcome" didn't seem very positive. So I clicked through to the discussion forums that are attached to this online site and asked:
"What does it mean when you draw an "Outcome" card (asking if you'll have ANY success in selling fiction over the next six months) and the first time it's The Hanged Man and then when you do a second reading it's The Hermit REVERSED? The best interpretation I could come up with is a "be patient, as this stuff takes MORE time." (sigh) Come talk to me about it, if you know."
The discussion forum responded.
FIRST OBSERVATIONS:
I think it's interesting to note that both of those cards are from the major arcana, which are sometimes called "fate cards." This tells me two things:
(1) Getting published is very, very important to you. You've poured massive amounts of energy, time and work into this, and feel a genuine calling to your craft.
(2) Also, this tells me that fate is playing a large role in this. Perhaps this is simply a reflection of the reality that so much of the publishing decision is out of our own hands.
THE HANGED MAN: Indeed, it's a reminder to be patient. When I see the Hanged Man, the word "limbo" comes to mind. This isn't so bad because sometimes, no news is good news. For example, I've always heard that truly good manuscripts take longer for agents/editors to review. If your manuscript didn't have real potential of being published, I don't think you'd see the Hanged Man. You might see the dreaded Three of Swords (my least favorite card).
[I've seen that one before!]
Also interesting to note, the Hanged Man symbolizes sacrifice. This tells me that you've given up a lot of other things to create your manuscript(s). I can relate to this. I've watched exactly 1.5 hours of TV in the last month.
THE HERMIT REVERSED: Hmmmm...now this is interesting. Without knowing much of your history, this card makes me wonder if someone has suggested a book idea to you that warrants a second look. I only say this because sometimes the Hermit represents good advice that's not being fully explored.
[Hmmmmmm.]
Those are just my initial thoughts! One nice thing...neither card indicates you're on the wrong path. And indeed, maybe the fact they're both major arcana cards means that you're destined to be published, even if takes a little longer than we'd all like.

Th' usual ol' answer, then: "Wait." *gnash*
OH, well. That'll teach me to fool around with them devil cards.
(/FE irony off)

Date: 2007-02-05 03:29 am (UTC)I don't call that a bad reading, I call that a 'hard work ahead, but you have the chops and can do it' reading--that's what's meant by all those major arcana. And finally: patience wins out. That, and truly listening to any guides, not withdrawing as a hermit. Depends on which card you want to look at as the outcome.
Storage bins, stupor bowls, etc.
Date: 2007-02-05 02:23 pm (UTC)Great minds thinking alike department: My venerable spoof-magazine, MUKO, now in its eighth year, has been covering its nation's major sporting event, the national championship in Double Football (half American football, half soccer). And, wouldn't you know it: that game (it will be played in my mind next Sunday) is called -- the Stupor Bowl. This year it will be a matchup between the Zamenhof City Zappers and the Aunt Shirley Hens. Do you need to know anything more than that? I sincerely doubt it. ;-)
