I need something for a minor incident in the book. What could be a minor, but scary, thing that could "almost" fall on your head if you were sitting in the audience in a theater? For live theater? Later on, a klieg light will fall. But for now, all I need is something to come soaring over the audience's heads, or something to fall on an empty seat, or what-have-you that forebodes that there could be worse problems later. I'm stumped. Before, they just sat in the theater and said that it looked old and needed renovation.

This could be something electronic . . . hmm. Any ideas?

I don't think this is what you need, but old shabby buildings sometimes have bats in them. That would be startling, and maybe also incline you to look up?

(Hee--just noticed your userpic!!)

A bird could get in, or a kid throws a paper plane?

small sandbag that was not tied off well.

A clamp from the lighting grid that was not properly affixed to the rail.

A wrench that was left up on the catwalk and was dislodged over time by the rumbling traffic outside the place.

I have two out of the three happen to me.

Popcorn? Or ice from a drink? Or is that too innocent?

what about lighting? Those colored flood lights that hang in bars on chaines?

one chain could break loose and it could swing dramatically

How about a chunk of plaster from the ceiling? Or a ceiling tile? Not electronic, but if the theatre needs renovation, it's likely there's something wrong with the ceiling.

if it's an opulent and classic theater, i would go for a chandelier.
