Images of our excursion
Oct. 21st, 2007 06:44 amA farmers' market in downtown Plano.
(Sorry, but I was afraid to photograph the skateboard shop next door where the two groups of punks wearing gang colors were congregated to compare shoes. They were pretty scary-looking.)
Beautiful downtown Plano (recently tourist-i-fied and gentrified)
The only palm tree in these parts. Also, the tortilla factory is in front of the restaurant where we ate.
Aparicio's has a pond.
And they decorated for Hallowe'en.
The gift I really wanted. I should never have sold mine at a garage sale when I was eleven, but I wanted to buy my first piano, and this helped raise the money.

toot sweeeet
Date: 2007-10-21 10:39 pm (UTC)That last pic is of a "Toot Sweet" candy-making toy from 1968, a promotional item from the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" musical that came out that year starring Dick Van Dyke. It's a press that accepts softened Tootsie rolls (*midgee size*) and presses them into a whistle shape. Actually, you make two halves of the whistle (it's like a coach's or gym teacher's silver whistle) and then press them together. You can then whistle with it! They also give you molds to make teddy bears and various other shapes out of the Tootsie rolls. Ever since I sold mine, I have regretted it. There are a few people selling them on eBay for $300 and up!
I don't really NEED any candy whistles, mind. And what would I do with them?! But it's a childhood thing.
*grin*

Date: 2007-10-21 10:44 pm (UTC)Oh, now I remember. Toot Sweets...ah yes. Never had one, but all the cool kids did. I like that you got one for yourself. I just bought a childhood doll on eBay(a Drink and Wet) -- not that I NEED it, mind. I bought it for the memories. :)
