You're going to make your own record album cover! No, really, it's fun. Amazing. Addictive.
The first article title on the Wikipedia Random Articles page is the name of your band.
The last four words of the very last quotation on the Random Quotations page is the title of your album.
The third picture in Flickr's Interesting Photos From The Last 7 Days will be your album cover.
Edit in graphics program of choice and post. Leave link or upload image to this comments thread, if you will. We love these things. They're like crack! (Although crack is not crack to us here at Casa el Dumpo; Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and pizza serve the purpose instead. Supreme Personal Pan Pizza is the new crack.)
Don't really know how to save images? (You can't always left-click. In fact, don't use images that are marked as protected or that are rigged to pop up with, "Can't copy," or something similar, when you left-click, as they do belong to the original posting authority.) Here's how to do a screen capture of a software screen or any picture on your screen without any plug-ins or special software.
1. Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard. It may be labeled [PrtScn]. This captures a screen shot in a Windows buffer. Hold the Alt key down while pressing Print Screen to capture only the active window.
2. Open an image editing program, such as Microsoft Paint. (That's the only one I have or know how to use.)
3. Press CTRL-V or pull down the Edit menu and choose Paste. If you are prompted to enlarge the image, click on Yes.
4. Now you can get the part of the screen that you wanted. Do a "select" box around what you want and "copy" it, and then select (from the Edit menu) "copy to" and give a file name for the new file. File types offered up will probably be BMP and maybe JPG. It doesn't always give me GIF. Odd, because GIF works well in other programs, and JPG can make screen shots blurry or smeared.
5. Edit that new file. You can put text on it or whatever you like.
In other news . . . does anyone else see why a person should not be called (or name her daughter) "LaTreena"? Or perhaps I hear the double entendre because of my uncle and how he served for years as P. L. O. (Permanent Latrine Orderly), according to him, in the US Navy ("USN, Never Again.")
All right, enough procrastination. To the album covers! (Behind the LJ cut, all but my very favorite one, on which I obviously cheated . . . but I intend to record that album and put it up for free download on MP3.com now that I am so inspired! You may not be able to listen to it without covering your ears with your hands, but hey! That's not the POINT! (GRIN) The point is MY CREATIVE OUTLEEEETTT. . . .)
But first! Here's one that I wish I had done.
Sorry about the hideous artifacting that these have--they're GIFs made from a BMP, and they didn't come out very well when they got smaller. Okay, well, I am not good with "Paint." That's the only graphics program I have. I know I could have done the graphics stuff better. I also cheated and made up some of these bands myself rather than actually randomizing.
My new release, "Fifteen Minutes of Fame." It's a cover album. All the tracks are "covers" of famous bands' songs.
And my garage band NeatORama has really "Gone to the Dogs" with this one:
Our electronic-Moogwhistle collaboration, 12 Victoria, has put out "Up Where We're Going," a New Age-y, ambient, keyboardy, panflutey, sounds-of-water-dripping-from-faucet extravaganza.
My new album . . . all me, all the time.
