Scan cancelled for now (Yay?)
Aug. 11th, 2008 03:59 pmAll of y'all's prayers have me feeling VERY serene and lifted up. This is a Good Thing.
But we didn't do the scan. Back home already. We went down to the imaging place to find that my orthopedic surgeon's office had gotten back to them, and had said that I can't have an MRI. (Even an open MRI.) They said that the K-wires I have in my patella (that sounds like a Spanish dance) would heat up and cause swelling and possible damage--it cooks the tissue, ugh--and since I have diabetes, we don't want to risk messing with the limb.
(I remember him saying, post-op, that if I had problems later I could have the wires removed, but that would be major surgery with months of recovery and PT again.)
My diagnostician really wanted THAT test. We got on the horn and suggested having a CT with contrast, but he said that would be no good to him. (I suspect it would show SOMEthing--what did people do before the MRI, just die? Don't answer that.) He was really bent out of shape, but the director of the imaging center said no, that in his experience it can be chancy when you have wire or metal in your body, and it's really not going to happen unless we have an emergency, and we don't. My visual symptoms have gone away, except I still have allergies and I know I need these glasses changed. The suspicion is that my high blood pressure caused the events, or that a diabetic eye condition caused it--both of which are treatable.
The suggestion of the director (and this makes sense) is that I should get the ophthalmologist's opinion. If HE sees some reason that it could have happened, we can relax more. They do visual field tests, otherwise known as "torture," and they look at where you might have small anomalies or blind spots. They look to see if you have retinopathy, edema, and other scary stuff.
I still don't feel that it's the brain/pit thing. I am here to tell you that when you present with a brain problem, the symptom does NOT go away--it gets worse. That makes us feel a bit more secure.
Oh, and hubby cancelled a meeting and came home to take me to the place, as I can't drive after I have that contrast stuff (I'm too busy choking and having shivers.) He was going to go in with me. But once the director had come out to talk to us, he said, "How about with a metal stent?"
!!! "Let's look at your card."
He's a card-carrying stent-wearer now. The card said, "Contact your surgeon before scheduling an MRI." In other words, NO. You can't go into the open MRI room! Only if YOU yourself had to have one on an urgent basis would we discuss it.
Whew! Another bullet dodged.
I feel serene that this is the proper development, and that things are unfolding as they should. I'll see the Mad Doctor on Wednesday (and he'll still be grumbling, but he'll get over it) and we'll talk about the gallbladder thing and so forth. I even have blood work for him to look at.
See? Prayers/positive energies worked! Although not quite in the form we expected. That's how it usually happens.
I actually feel pretty good. Now if it'll just RAIN and make my plants happy again.
I know! Let's go Krogering to celebrate!

Date: 2008-08-12 03:34 am (UTC)Sorry about the other day's message, which addressed my other daughter's problems so much. Have you ever put yourself in a writing situation where you have a strong point to make, but the words you type keep getting in the way? That was definitely one of those occasions.
